I was more strict and used GPO's / Security Filtering to lock down basic stuff like RUN, CMD, UNC paths, etc.Īlso having a good UTM device for your firewall can keep a lot of the problems out of the network altogether. Have up-to-date antivirus and an image-cloning system in place for when you inevitably have to blow up a machine and start over. With that said, be sure to use your ACL's properly and lock down all file shares. When they lost computer access for two weeks and couldn't do their homework in class, they got the message. What I found was that having a very clear Acceptable Use Policy and clear consequences for violating that policy helped to curb a lot of the more difficult students. (By hack I mean go watch a YouTube video on how to use Chrome to download files from the Windows directory so they can play the games you disabled) What I found was that these kids all think they are the next member of Anonymous and try to "hack" the machine. I was the IT Director at a K12 school for a couple years.
